We show you how the heck to wear fall fashion when it’s 30 degrees out.
While stores are turning to shades of brown, rust, and burgundy, the same cannot be said for the trees in our perpetual summer. How do you ditch so-last-season’s summer outfits for something warmer despite the already warm temperatures?
Just because we don’t have actual autumns, doesn’t mean we can’t get in on fall fashion fun. We explore this season’s hottest fall trends and repurpose them for warm weather wear.
Heavy Fabrics With Shorter Hemlines
Fall favourites like suede and velvet (so on trend this year, btw) wear a little warm. To counter that, search for pieces with shorter hemlines or without sleeves. This A-line suede skirt from H&M is a good way to wear the trend without turning your outfit into a portable sauna.
Pair it with a light blouse or a button-up shirt for a perfect summer-fall ensemble.
There’s also no reason to stay away from cosy knits – a knitted crop top or a sleeveless knit dress screams autumn without the underarm sweat stains.

Pair it with a loose-fitting paper bag pants for an airy feel that balances the lack of volume at the top.
If you don’t like the way these warm materials cling to your body, then adopt an accessory instead, like this faux fur clutch.

Fall Colours & Patterns
Reluctant to go warm with fabrics? Then do it with colour. Brown is a hot colour this fall, along with usual suspects like orange, red, rust, mustard, burgundy, and forest green. Pro tip: replace neutrals like black and white with their fall versions, brown and forest green.
Patterns are also a smart way to incorporate the season. Whiles checkers and plaids are quintessential autumn, this year is all about boho patterns and paisley prints.
Forever 21 Paisley Lace-Up Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses transition well from summer to faux fall. This Forever 21 frock incorporates fall’s paisley with straps and a slit that will keep you breezy!
Balance Your Volumes
If you can’t resist a nice parka but you’re afraid of how warm it’ll make you feel, then balance your heavy top with bare skinned legs! Wear a jacket with shorts, or a pair of pants with a crop top. Balance is always key.
Other ways to balance volume and heft is by ditching the sleeves of a jackets – get a vest! Layer that over a plaid dress to check off two trends in one cool (and cooling) outfit.

Layer Pieces You Already Own
You don’t have to jump onto the fall bandwagon by buying new pieces. Instead, convert and combine pieces in your wardrobe to make fall-friendly looks!
Add a button or long sleeved shirt under a strappy summer dress for a fall-friendly look.
Put together a flannel shirt, vintage t-shirt and a pair of jeans for a grungy fall outfit. Too hot? Tie the shirt around your waist – it’s a practical and trendy nod to the 90s, which is making a big comeback.
Accessorise for the Season
A great way to stay away from warm clothing while wearing the trend is by donning fall accessories. A wool hat with your usual summer get-up will give the look an autumn feel.
Ankle boots also have a way of giving an outfit fall vibes. Wear it with a dress that hits above the knees or even denim shorts to greet the season while staying ventilated.
