Seeing as it’s Oktoberfest, we’re clinking to the weird and wonderful ways beer makes us beautiful.

It’s that time of the year again where beer is so cheap that we can use it for facials! We make the case for why they’re good for your skin and hair.

Beer contains Vitamin B, yeast, hops and other antioxidants that can remove toxins, dissolve dead skin cells, and improve skin elasticity; leaving you looking youthful and fresh faced.

And no, we weren’t inebriated when we wrote this article.

Beery Fresh

Easy and quick, this mask is the best solution for the flat beer that your friends left out to chase that Tinder match. This mask provides almost instant results, giving you a fresh, dewy finish.

What you’ll need: ½ teaspoon of beer, 1 egg white, and 1 drop of almond extract.
What to do: Whisk it all together and apply on freshly washed face. Leave to dry until your face feels taut then wash off with lukewarm water.

This mask works wonders for normal to combination skin, reducing dark spots and blemishes, leaving you with soft glowy skin and , all without even getting out of your PJ’s.

Smooth Opercider

For a home hair spa, try out the beer and apple cider vinegar combination – use a stale beer so as not to waste fresh ones! Not only does apple cider vinegar bring its own benefits like fighting age spots and wrinkles, it also helps mask the smell of stale beer.

What you’ll need: ⅓ cup of flat beer, ⅓ cup of water and 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
What to do: Wash your hair with regular shampoo. Then spritz or pour over the mixture onto damp hair, coating your scalp and hair. Let sit for 5 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.

You’ll be left with locks so shiny and silky that you’d want to head out just to show it off – but you won’t because there’s beer at home. Regularly using this mask promotes hair growth and healthy follicles.

Lather With Lager

Looking for a quick and easy way to get soft skin without splurging on products? Try adding beer to your bubble bath.

What you’ll need: Olive oil soap (or any essential oil-based liquid) and a can of beer of your choice.

What to do: Mix your soap and beer into your running bath and soak in for as long as you like. Gently scrub and lather your skin. Light a few candles, put on some music and just enjoy the fact that you’re soaking in beer – life doesn’t get better than that.

The combination of essential oils and the beer’s antioxidant elements will help soften and smoothen your skin.

What you’ll need: 2 to 3 strawberries and enough beer to make a paste.
What to do: Mash the strawberries and add a few teaspoons of beer to make a paste. Gently rub the paste onto your face in circular motions. Let sit for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. Remember to follow this up with a toner and moisturiser as you would with a regular scrub.

This combination removes blackheads and whiteheads while soothing any inflammation.

Ale Cleared Up

The yeast in beer is known to lower the skin’s oil production, kill bacteria, and maintain the skin’s pH levels at 5.5pH. Imbalanced pH levels are the bane of most skin issues, from dry skin to wrinkles!

The combination of beer with lemon juice, olive oil, and honey will help reduce the appearance of scars while giving you a glow – and we’re not talking about the kind you get when you consume too much beer!

What you’ll need: 1 tablespoon of beer, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and a few drops of olive oil and honey.
What to do: Mix all the ingredients together to create a paste. Apply the mixture onto face and neck for about 20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.

This mask will help tighten follicles and remove dirt and grease, giving you a clearer, more even complexion.
