Forget late nights and smoky bars – make your next party a home spa party!
A party where all you do is sit around and be pretty? Yes, please.
A spa party is a refreshing alternative if you want to meet up with friends, but also really want to laze around at home because home is where the heart and pyjamas are. Before you slip into those comfy slippers, here’s what you need.
Get your friends to commit to a date. They will need to show up in comfy lounge wear and bring their own towels and headbands. Alternatively, splurge and purchase bathrobes and towels in a matching theme because that’s what BFFs do. You can find great bargains online or at outlets like FOS and Daiso.
Bring out the bubbly! A glass of wine (or two) will put you in just the kind of relaxed, giggly mood that great parties are built on. They’re also the best time to try out a new punch recipe – we love the Poor Girl Champagne Punch which tastes just like the real deal without putting a dent in your Tory Burch purse. To make, simply mix:
- 1 can of frozen raspberry lemonade concentrate
- ½ cup of vodka
- 3 and ½ cups of beer
Top with sliced lemons, limes, and frozen raspberries to meet your daily dietary requirements. Tada! Instant class. If your group is abstaining, a pot of fancy tea or coffee does the trick too.
Serve finger food that can be easily eaten without ruining your mask or pedicure. We like dainty sandwiches and carrot sticks with a fantastic dip, but we won’t blab if you decide to order in 5 boxes of chicken nuggets instead.
Find space in your home with soft lighting and comfortable sofas or cushions. You can also light scented candles or put out bowls of potpourri – lavender is a go-to scent for relaxation, but there’s always room for experimenting! Try vanilla to make you happier (for real), orange for a burst of energy, or spicy musk and patchouli to go with a Magic Mike marathon.
The right music helps with the ambience – scroll through your Spotify account for relaxing, instrumental playlists, though we’re not opposed to any kind of music as long as you don’t crack your face masks during a singalong.
It’s also a good idea to protect your furniture with throw covers – be prepared for a mess.
Get Your Supplies Ready
If you’re not on a budget, some spas have customisable spa party packages on their menu. Simply make an appointment, and wait for your big day! Otherwise, you will need to prepare your own supplies and ingredients. We recommend an itinerary that includes fun, easy treatments like face masks, manicures and pedicures, foot soaks, and hand massages.
Spa parties are also great pre-parties for a fun night out – end the day by doing each other’s hair and makeup. Here’s what you’ll need:
General: Have towels at hand to clean up spills. If you foresee being too lazy to walk to the bathroom, you should also have wipes, wash cloths, hand towels, soap, and bowls of water (for facials and manicures) for your guests.
Foot soaks: Start with steamy buckets of water with essential oils to soothe your feet and get rid of dirt and grime before your pedicure because even the bestest of friends have limits.
Face mask: Prepare cleanser, scrub, toner, moisturiser, and cotton pads for pre- and post- mask skincare. You can even create a spa bar with an assortment of homemade scrubs and masks made from ingredients in your kitchen!
For a more fuss-free experience, we like novelty face masks that you can Snapchat throughout. Try The Face Shop’s character masks, available at major malls in Malaysia.
Manicure and pedicure: You’ll need cotton balls and cotton buds, nail clippers, nail file, cuticle cream, hand cream, nail polish remover, base coat, top coat, and a few different nail polish colours – ask your friends to bring their own stash! Better yet, get matching mani-pedis because how else will people know you’re friends?
Hand massage: For a finishing touch, massage your hands with luxurious hand cream that will leave them feeling soft again after handling all those products. You can also substitute with coconut oil, because there’s no occasion where coconut oil is not appropriate.
