“One cannot think well, love well, and sleep well if one has not dined well.”
…is to eat what makes you feel good. Food is to be enjoyed – even if you’re watching your weight!
After all, the only truly sustainable way to lose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle is to treat yourself well.
Too many people get into the fit life because they want to change something about themselves, but any bona fide fitness junkie knows that the first rule to a successful journey is self-love! If it doesn’t make you feel good, you’re not doing it right.
You can’t eat salary sticks for the rest of your life – not only is it depressing and unhealthy, it’s also not sustainable! Chances are, you’ll crack and start stuffing your face with pizza (or whatever your vice is) when your body gives in to a suppressed craving.
So the best way to achieve and maintain the weight you want is to eat healthier while occasionally indulging in your favourite foods. You need to reward both your body AND your mind.
Don’t torture yourself. This could get bad real fast! More people have caught eating disorders in the past decade than they’d care to admit. What’s more? Most eating disorder sufferers aren’t even aware of their conditions. Check out the list below to make sure you don’t have any of these symptoms.
- Anorexia nervosa: excessive dieting, extreme exercise and weight loss, distorted body image, anxiety about calories and weight, and frequent meal-skipping.
- Bulimia nervosa: cycles of extreme overeating followed by “compensation” like purging, self-induced vomiting, and rigid exercise regimen solely to “burn calories”.
- Binge-eating disorder: regular overeating, constant dieting, embarrassment about eating behaviour.
These disorders could lead to extremely dangerous health conditions such as organ failure and depression. If you suspect that a loved one might be experiencing these symptoms, reach out to them. If you think you may have a problem, don’t be afraid to talk to someone you can trust.
Restrictive Diets are Not the Answer
Focus on being healthy and not on your weight – it’s just a number!
Fat- and skinny-shaming happen all around us, and they’re both just as bad. Too many tactless comments are made everyday on both ends. “I rather look like you, I wish I was fatter” or “You’re so lucky. I wish I could eat everything I wanted and still be that skinny.” Just tell a friend that he or she looks good, not because he/she is fat or skinny.
There isn’t a particular way you need to be. Eat food that tastes good, and ones that make you feel good. Too much pizza will make you feel sick. Eat everything in moderation – your body knows what you need better than anything you read ever will!
