Curly hair can be hard to manage, no thanks to frizz and the humid weather. Try out some of our tricks to make your curls work for you!

Prone to frizz, dryness, and tangles, gorgeous curls come at a price: commitment.

Here are several things you need to get right in order to rock sleek curls, be it natural or permed.

1 Get The Right Cut

In a world where straight hair is the majority, you’re going to have to look out for a hairstylist who understands your curly hair needs. Not every hairstyle works with curly hair (nor your facial features) so do invest time, effort, and money when it comes to looking for a hairstylist who can do justice to your curls. Make sure your stylist sees you with your natural curls so that he or she can give you a cut you can maintain.

Look out for magazines and celebs with curls like yours and find a hairstyle that you think you can rock. After which, discuss it with your stylist and find a middle ground between getting a cut you really want and spending too long or too much to maintain it.

2 Shampoo & Conditioner Dos

As curly hair tends to be dry dry, opt for something that gives you ample hydration. Invest in a good hair mask and conditioner to keep the frizz under control. Besides experimenting with products, also experiment with how frequently you wash your hair. Shampooing too frequently might give you dry and frizzy curls.

3 Towel Drying

Rigorous towel drying creates static and causes your hair to frizz up. Start by gently squeezing excess water out of your hair – don’t wring it! Then, wrap the towel along your hair length to squeeze more water out. You can wipe your hair, but be sure to do it gently and wipe down towards the ends of your hair, but not back. The back and forth motion is the static culprit!

4 Find Your Army of Curling Products

Test products and find ones that suits you best. Arm yourself with a frizz tamer (serum or cream), curl setter, and heat protectant for your blowdrying sessions. Read reviews or get a sales assistant’s recommendation for your hair type. You can even ask for free product samples to try out.

5 Embrace Those Spirals
