Looking to lose weight? Well, these are not the ways to do it. But you will not believe how far some people would go to do it!
If you’re like us, you’ve probably tried one or two fad diets in search of a weight loss quick fix. But some of these are so bizarre, you’re gonna wanna hug a piece of steak as we review them…
More often than not, fad diets don’t really work as they may help you lose weight at the expense of your health due to the extreme measures that cause rapid weight loss. We list down some of the strangest ones we know!
Ever heard of filling your tummy with just solar energy? This diet fad recommends “sun eating” which is to skip a meal and stare directly at the sun for 44 minutes daily, an act that’s supposed to fill you up. This actually causes weight loss not because the sun’s effects, but because simply skipping a meal means reduced calories! Not only is meal-skipping unhealthy, this method can also cause serious damage to your eyes. We recommend eating 3 healthy meals daily, under some shade!
It sounds harmless, kind of like a nicotine patch, but don’t be fooled! The programme involves stitching a piece of mesh to the tongue, making it hard (and oh, so painful) to eat solid food, so that the dieter sticks to a strict liquid-only diet. The mesh is put in place for 6 weeks before removal. If this extreme method doesn’t scare you into not overeating, we’re not sure what will.
Does the name of the diet itself make you squirm? It should! The person on this diet consumes either a live tapeworm, meat that has tendency to produce tapeworm, or a capsule with tapeworm eggs. Once it’s inside, the tapeworm shares your meal portions so you absorb fewer calories without changing the amount of food you eat. The risk? The tapeworm can grow to be incredibly long and invade other parts of the body including the brain. This diet has been banned in many countries for its obvious safety risks.
The rules of this diet has meal times following moon phases. During a full moon, participants go on a 24-hour fast, followed by eating specific types of food during the different moon phases. While this method might help with detox, there’s no scientific proof that it works in a healthy, sustainable manner. So, no thanks. We’re gonna stick to good ol’ fashioned healthy eating and exercise.
