Why you should care

These will give you an instant fake up.

A 20-minute makeup session in the morning means 20 minutes less of dreaming about about puppy cuddles. So we wondered, are there more instant ways to look better without actual makeup?

Introducing…semi-permanent makeup, extensions, and more. Read on.

1 Eyebrow Tinting

 What does it do?

Dyes your eyebrows with semi-permanent dye for a stronger colour and fuller looking brow.

How long does it last?

3 – 4 weeks.

How much does it cost?

RM34 at Benefit stores and Benefit booths in Sephora.

Are there any cons?

Very sparse brows will still need to be filled in as the dye can only tint whatever hairs you have.

2 Eyebrow Embroidery

What does it do?

Creates semi-permanent filled in brows. Using a micro blade to penetrate the epidermis and dermis, pigment is delivered in lines mimicking real eyebrow hairs. Don’t mistake it for its predecessor, eyebrow tattoos which give a less natural look.

How long does it last?

1 – 2 years, depending on skin type and how you maintain it.

How much does it cost?

RM400 – RM2000, sometimes even more. Prices vary according to how established the beauty salon is. We advise you to do your homework and not pick a salon based on price though, as the therapist’s experience is important and a well-established salon will take better hygiene and procedural measures!

Are there any cons?

There might be some swelling and redness after the session, though many attest to it being only slightly painful. It is also a pretty pricey service, although you’ll save on all that time and eyebrow palettes!

3 Eyelash Extensions

What does it do?

Gives you longer, fuller, and darker lashes by attaching individual false hairs to your eyelashes.

How long does it last?

2 – 6 weeks, depending on lifestyle and maintenance care.

How much does it cost?

RM100 – RM250.

Are there any cons?

Maintenance can be quite a hassle – you’d need to quit eye-rubbing habits, and that includes wiping water off your face during a shower! Secondly, as the false hairs are quite heavy, they tend to weigh your real lashes down and cause them to fall quicker than they naturally do. However, this effect isn’t permanent as thankfully, hairs grow back!

4 Eyeliner Tattoo

What does it do?

Creates a semi-permanent eyeliner by tattooing colour onto your lash line. You can get a more natural look by only tattooing between your eyelashes (same effect as tight lining with an eyeliner), or achieve more dramatic looks with thicker lines.

How long does it last?

2 – 3 years, depending on lifestyle and the individual’s body chemistry. The colour fades over time, but will never entirely disappear. Touch-ups are needed to maintain colour intensity.

Are there any cons?

While the tattoo fades, it never disappears entirely, so this is not for the commitment-phobic!

5 Lip Tattoo

What does it do?

Creates a semi-permanent lip liner to define your lips, give it symmetry or make it look fuller; or colour your lips in to give it a tint.

As with the eyeliner tattoo, the colour never fades entirely, so make sure it’s something you will like for a long time!

6 Coloured Contact Lenses

What does it do?

Instantly brightens your eyes and makes them pop by altering the colour appearance of your eyes. Some lenses also have an eye-enlarging effect.

How long does it last?

A pair of contact lens can be worn for a maximum of 1 day, 2 weeks, 1 month, or 3 months, depending on the brand and type. Check with your optometrist!

How much does it cost?

RM10 – RM100 per pair.

Are there any cons?

Because of the ring of colour, the vision through coloured contact lenses can be slightly blurry.
