The fitness bug has hit Kuala Lumpur, and rightfully so! There’s nothing quite like working out while getting in touch with nature.

With dozens of gyms and indoor fitness centres in the concrete jungle we call Kuala Lumpur, the occasional change of scenery is necessary. So go on a hike, get some fresh air, and work those squeaky joints and muscles. We’ve compiled a list of cool places for you to unwind at this weekend!

1 Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya

Well known amongst Petaling Jaya residents, Bukit Gasing welcomes hikers regularly. There are several trails to choose from depending on your fitness level, so choose one that would potentially be challenging without totally knocking the wind out of you! The beautiful forest has easy-to-follow paths that have been treaded on for years, making them easier to follow. Once you reach the top, there’s a pretty awesome view of the greens.

2 KL Forest Eco Park

This precious patch of forest is carefully reserved within the otherwise concrete jungle. This is a favourite amongst locals and tourists alike due to its multiple trail types. You’ll also find obstacle courses for those wanting more of a challenge, and a suspended walkway for the adrenaline junkies. What makes it a must-try hike is the view of KL tower from the top!

3 Canopy Walk, FRIM

The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) allows city dwellers to experience and learn more about Malaysian forests. Boasting fauna like fishes, birds, and critters; and a myriad of flowers and plants, FRIM offers nature education via observation and its explanation plaques. Besides hiking, you can also cycle, have a picnic by the waterfall, or go camping.

4 Bukit Kiara

Known for being a prime hiking, walking, and biking spot, Bukit Kiara in all its green glory is definitely a place worth checking out. Located next to TTDI, a densely populated area, Bukit Kiara offers easy access to surrounding residences. Trail types include bike-friendly roads and tougher trails through the forestry.

5 Bukit Tabur

The previous 4 on the list too mild for you? If you happen to be up for a challenge, Bukit Tabur is the answer. Better known by the locals as Dragon’s Backbone, this trail comes with some intense workout and rock climbing opportunities, and breathtaking views as incentive. Known to be quite a dangerous hike due to its rugged terrain, sharp rocks, and vertical drops; be sure to do prior training and research or bring an experienced hiker along with you.
