The culprit may not be hair texture, but hair habits.
If you’ve struggled with frizz for a long time, you’d be surprised to know that half of it is not due to your natural hair texture, but the way you treat your hair.
Don’t:
Layered hairstyles are good for framing the face. However, layering your hair too much can cause it to frizz as layered hair is lighter, so it won’t be weighed down to fall neatly, becoming more susceptible to frizz.
Do:
Tell your hairdresser about your natural hair texture and it’s tendency to frizz, then request for less surface layers, or request for him/her to do under-layers, or ask for a hair length that will suit you, and that will require less layers.
Don’t:
Wash your hair daily as this strips its natural oils that keep it moisturised and kempt.
Do:
Only shampoo your hair every 2 – 3 days. You can still rinse it with water or use dry shampoo in between washes. When you do wash your hair, use cooler water, as hot water is drying. For the same reason, use sulfate- and alcohol-free shampoos for the very same reason.
If you work out and like to shampoo after, then plan for those on shampoo days!
L’Oreal EverCreme Intense Nourishing Shampoo is sulfate-free, available at your nearest pharmacy.
3 Wrong Pillowcases
Don’t:
Sleep on any ol’ pillowcase. Sleeping, tossing, and turning causes static, giving you frizz.
Do:
Get a silk or satin pillowcase, or find one that’s meant to be gentle on the hair. Both your hair and skin will thank you for it!

4 High Heat Hair Dryers
Don’t:
Use the high heat setting on completely wet hair because this really dries your hair out in the long run.
Do:
Try to air dry when you can; to prevent frizz during this process, grab some hair serum or leave-in conditioner, rub it between your palms, and spread evenly through your hair, concentrating on the middle to the ends of your length. If you have waves or curls, grab small sections and twirl them around your finger so that they weight down more, and dry neatly.
We like Moroccanoil Frizz Control hair oil.
Speaking of air drying, don’t rigorously towel-dry your hair to speed up the process. Instead, gently use the towel to squeeze out excess water.
If you’re still using a hair dryer, try not to use it when your hair is completely wet, minimising heat time. Then use the medium setting before finishing off with a cool setting. The cool setting closes your hair follicles, making them look more shiny.
Don’t:
Style your hair with a hot tool too often. It damages your hair, causing it to frizz.
Do:
Try out some no-heat curls, braids, and looks that will style your mane without having to touch a straightener. We love these easy hair looks that are great for summer (or most seasons)!
