Let’s face it, no one wants to be in a bad mood. In our stressful environments, mood disorders have become as common as the cold. We owe it to ourselves to regain full control of our wellbeing and life. A mood booster can not only change your life, but the lives of the people around you.

Try these natural mood boosters to start the day or even as a pick-me-up on a dreary Monday!

1 Yummy and Healthy Food

Sweets and chocolates will perk you up, but too many sweets can cause major complications. Try a dark chocolate – those contain less sugar than their milk brothers but still trigger your brain’s natural happy chemicals, endorphins. Indulge in the yummy stuff, but also ensure a balanced and healthy diet filled with fruits and vegetables. Eating healthy gives you a good amount of energy for the day, so you won’t feel as dreadful when the boss calls for a “quick” staff meeting.

2 Lots of Water

infused waterMake a conscious effort to drink more water or at least drink the daily minimum of 8 glasses (and we’re not talking shot glasses) worth. Dehydration can cause mood downers such as fatigue, so the more water you drink, the better. Need a reminder? Download an app on your phone that will remind you, or make it into a mini competition with your neighbour at the office! Drinking water not only keeps you hydrated, it also maintains your skin’s health and radiance.

3 A Good Workout

It triggers those happy brain chemicals (see point 1) and boosts your immune system – a weak immune system can worsen depression. Be it dance classes, yoga, the gym, or even a simple home workout; dedicate an hour a day to let your body feel good.

4 Quality Sleep

girl sleepingIt’s so important that your body gets 8 hours of sleep daily. Sleep is when your body gets to rest, recuperate, and recharge for the next day. With enough sleep, you’ll feel less anxious and lethargic. This means that your mind and body will be more ready to take on the day!

5 Deliberate Decisions

It could be something simple like indulging in your favourite ice cream or something more meaningful like spending time with family.
