For the girls (and boys) who get lost in the perfume aisle of the department store.
Just like how the smell of cinnamon reminds us of Christmas, a distinctive perfume scent is a good way to identify yourself.
That’s why choosing your signature scent is so important! Here are easy tips for you to find a perfume that will suit you.
Have you noticed that certain perfumes have more than one version of the same scent, and are all priced differently? That’s because different bottles have different concentrations of the fragrance. The most common ones are Eau de Parfum (EDP) and Eau de Toilette (EDT).
Eau de Parfum typically has a higher concentration of fragrance and would last for around 4 – 6 hours. This makes it a more suitable perfume for more formal events like dinner events and weddings. The relatively lower concentration of alcohol also means that it is less likely to aggravate sensitive skin.
Eau de Toilette on the other hand, has a lower concentration of fragrance, and is therefore less expensive than Eau de Parfum. This type of fragrance is the most popular, and is mostly used for daytime wear, lasting 2 – 3 hours.
Are you bright, bubbly, and energetic? Or are you more mysterious, dark, and dreamy? Either way, you’d want to pick a scent that reflects your personality and style.
Something fruity and fun, like DKNY’s Be Delicious will blend well with your outgoing personality. If you’d like to highlight your feminine side, try something floral like Chloé by Chloé which is reminiscent of a romantic garden.
In order to truly achieve a scent that is yours, it’s important to layer your scents. Build up your signature scent with a shampoo, bath gel, and body lotion from the same line. The blend of all these smells will create a harmonious scent that is you.
Keep in mind that we live in a tropical and humid region. This means that we tend to sweat a lot. A light and refreshing scent would ensure that the smell does not overpower you.
It is also worth a mention that dry skin will not hold fragrance as long as moisturised skin would. So don’t skip the lotion, people!
Last but not least, make sure that you choose a perfume that you like, or more importantly, LOVE. If you’re still unsure, when shopping for a scent, spritz a bit of the perfume on your wrists, then walk around the mall and do a sniff test every 20 minutes or so.
The smell will evolve as the middle and base notes of the fragrance appears. If you still like the scent after 30 minutes, go ahead and purchase it!
It doesn’t matter if the perfume of the season receives five star reviews, if you don’t like it don’t buy it.
