Black isn’t just for Halloween after all. Freaky or cool? It all depends on how you wear it!

Once you go black, you never go back, right?

The grunge look is back in a big way – tattered jeans, plaid shirts, black chokers, and more. It’s time to embrace not only grunge fashion, but also makeup – with a totally badass black lip! Here’s how to sport black lip colour:

1 Soft and Smooth

Use a lip scrub to exfoliate your lips for a smoother canvas. Darker colours tend to be drier so it’s important to keep your lips well hydrated.

Apply lip balm and drink lots of water as dark lipsticks tend to cling to dry patches – you’ll wanna avoid that patchy look! You can also DIY your own lip scrub with lemon, honey, coconut oil, and sugar.

Anyone will be able to tell the difference between a good matte lipstick and a cheap tube right away! Invest in the long-term and get a trusty stick that is both durable and pigmented. This produces a more solid colour, preventing patchy and messy finishes.

We recommend MAC’S Cremesheen Black Night with red and gold pearl specks. The specks add dimension to the colour and helps ease you into the look with hues you’re more familiar with.

3 Make it Stay

Dark shades can get messy so use a lip brush to help you. For easier application, use a matte and neutral lip liner before applying your lip colour.

4 Let the Lips Do the Talking

Downplay the rest of your makeup. Remember, you’re going for vampy, not a vampire!

Add colour to your cheeks by using a bronzer, but keep it simple. Balance out the harshness of the black lip with something classic and soft eye makeup.

5 Almost Black

The black smack is undoubtedly a timeless style but don’t write off other dark shades! Experiment with purple or maroon hues – you’ll never know what will look good on you until you try it. Lastly, don’t ever forget to wear it with confidence!
