Simple ways to get your nails looking on point at ALL times!
Nail care has become an important part of personal grooming. And why not? Our hands play a big part in body language, so might as well do it with beautiful nails.
More often than not, people take notice of nails especially since most of us tend to use our hands to gesture when we speak. That’s when well-manicured nails are given brownie points, which means that it’s your cue to invest time and effort into keeping your nails on point.
Long nails are pretty and feminine, but unfortunately come with a lot of complications. The chances of chipping them or even worse, have them break can be a really painful experience. If you’re always on the go and getting your hands dirty with errands and chores, then shorter nails are the way to go. If you’re a fan of long nails, just make sure to occasionally trim them for hygiene purposes.
2 Regular Manicures
Manicures are essential for nail care. Whether you choose to DIY or visit a nail salon, it’s good to regularly trim your nails and clean the underside. If you’re looking for a mini pamper sesh, dole out some cash for a mani-pedi appointment. Not only will your nails look pretty, but you can also have them thoroughly and professionally cleaned.
3 Base & Top Coats
When painting your own nails, always paint a base coat before applying nail polish. It helps protect your nails from getting stained (you know those yellowish or greyish nails?) and keeps the colour vibrant. Once done, add a top coat to seal the deal. It decreases chipping and fading.
4 Know Your Stuff
Take a conscious effort to read your hand and nail product labels. Avoid toxic chemicals that can cause your nails to become brittle. Instead, use hand and/or nail lotions that contain vitamin E which conditions and reduces nail breakage.
5 Hand Spa
Treat yourself to a hand spa or do it yourself with organic ingredients found at home! Use 2 tablespoons of sugar and add in some coconut and olive oil in equal parts. Massage the mixture into your hands or get a BFF to help you with it! This not only helps ease stress, but also loosens overgrown cuticles, making them easier to trim off.
6 Regular Trimming
Your hair isn’t the only thing that needs regular trims to keep it healthy – your nails work the same way. Regularly trim your nails to keep them clean and healthy!
7 Let It Rest
Give your nails some time to breathe. We can’t deny that painted nails are beautiful to look at, but doing it too often means that your nails don’t get any breathing room. This leads to discoloured and brittle nails. Yikes!
