Your dad thought these were cool before they were actually cool.
This Father’s Day, we pay tribute to dads as fashion borrows from men’s golden age style.
Don’t be afraid to dive into your dad’s closet for some of these pieces:
Before Harry Styles re-popularised these, our dads used to rock them. Vacation or not, Hawaiian shirts used to be their go -to outfit. Funky floral shirts have now become a staple piece with designers like Valentino and Louis Vuitton.
We used to cringe and sometimes still do when our dads pair socks and sandals but that fashion faux pas has inspired the new socks and heels trend. Sartorial queens are now rocking socks with their luxury heels and stilettos.
Apart from cargos, many dads used to rock Bermuda jean shorts everywhere. Cut off just above or below the knee, these jean shorts are typically paired with t-shirts for a casual outfit. We gotta give it to Kim Kardashian for bringing this one back, we don’t know how this became cool again…but it did.
We all remember the oversized and patterned sweaters our grandads used to wear. Sometimes the patterns were just too overwhelming for us to pull off but these oversized and printed sweaters are now an industry mainstay.
Caps used to be our dad’s way of keeping his bad hair (or less hair) days at bay. They were commonly worn indoors and outdoors and never really seemed like a fashion statement to us. Fast forward many years, we now see the cap becoming a style statement with various brands, and is a key piece in athleisure and street styles.
