Think summer, think waves, think beach hair – here’s how to get them before hitting the beach!

When a holiday destination screams relaxation, tranquility, and calm vibes, the beach comes to mind. And with it, sexy and effortless beach waves!

If there’s one thing we love about how the beach makes us look, it’s got to be the gorgeous waves that seem to magically appear in our hair, as if we styled in our sleep. Known as the “beach waves” (how apt!) it’s a hairstyle we wish we could do on a daily basis. Luckily for us, there are a few ways you achieve this look at home!

1 DIY Sea Salt Hair Spray

Contrary to popular belief, the waves in your hair are not caused by the wind, sun, and water but mostly due to the salt that your hair absorbs. You can DIY this effect with a home-made hair spray. Mix two tablespoons of sea salt in lukewarm water, then add a little bit of conditioner and let it dissolve for 10 – 15 minutes. Once done, pour it into a spray bottle and spritz it into your damp hair after showering. Let it dry and watch effortless waves form in your hair.

2 Braid Waves

While this trick requires minimal effort, it takes time for waves to form. Braid your hair when it’s semi-dry and leave it to dry thoroughly. You can can do it overnight or blow-dry it to quicken the drying process. Once done, let your braids go and spray on some hair spray to keep the waves in tact. Keep in mind, the tighter the braids, the tighter the waves and vice versa. With these basic rules, getting the beach hair of your dreams is easily accomplished.

3 Bun Waves

Similar to the braid waves, a bun sets your hair in place to create waves. Braids cause discomfort and headaches for certain people, so if this is you, the bun makes a good alternative. Section your hair into 2, 3, or 4 equal parts (depending on how thick it is), twist the sections into little buns, then secure them down with bobby pins. The process is the same as the braids, leave them to dry before releasing them. You can use gel instead of hair spray to set the look. We suggest doing this one overnight as the waves formed may not be defined enough it was blown out with a hairdryer.
