Why you should care

We get it, nail care products can be pricey. So why not show your nails some love with things you can find in your kitchen?

Countless manicures and months of bad diet can give you icky nails – brittle and stained.

Fortunately, we know just the homemade mask recipes that you can whip up to salvage those sexy claws.

1 Lemon Soda Mask For Stains

Lemon Soda The leftover stains that you get after a bout of dark nail polish could be the reason for your weak nails. The residue on your nails leaves little breathing space, causing them to dry out. Lemon soda mask is perfect for stain removal – the baking soda exfoliates while the lemon acts as a natural lightener. You can count on these 2 ingredients to bring back your clean and clear nails.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • A squeeze of lemon juice

How to mask it:

Stir to combine the ingredients and apply the mixture onto your nails. Let it set for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

2 Potato-Avocado Mask for Dry Nails

Avocado oil is one of the highest penetrative oils compared to other seed or vegetable oils. Applying the oil to your nails penetrates and moisturises the nail epidermis. Meanwhile, potato is rich in vitamin C – just the thing you need for strong nails.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 potato
  • 1 tablespoon of avocado oil
  • Juice from half a lemon

How to mask it:

Boil the potato and mash it, then mix it with the other ingredients. Stir until you get a firm texture. Rub the mixture onto your nails and cuticle, leave them to dry for 30 minutes, then wash off.

3 Honey-Yolk Mask For Weak Nails

Honey and YolkWeak nails are the most common nail condition caused by a nutritional deficiency from poor eating habits. If you have nails that look unhealthy, try this honey and egg yolk mask. Honey is good for your nails because it has anti-inflammatory properties that keep fungus from spoiling your nails. Egg yolk, on the other hand, gives a protein boost to your nails.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of water

How to mask it:

Mix the ingredients well. Spread the mixture onto your nails for 10 minutes, then wash it off.

4 Olive-Honey Mask

Brittle nails are the worst! Nails chip when they are dry and weak. The olive oil from this mask helps moisturise nails while honey keeps fungal growth at bay.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil

How to mask it:

Combine the ingredients and massage them onto your nails. Rinse off after 10 minutes.
