All-day Flawless: Tips for Making Your Makeup Last

You start the day with on-point makeup. Everything looks great as you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror before you strut out. Outside, the heat starts melting your makeup. What now?

What you use as your makeup base is crucial!  Use something that’s lightweight and waterproof. A lightweight foundation is unlikely to cake up when exposed to heat. This means that it won’t smudge. As for the waterproof bit, it helps prevent sweat from accumulating. Test out the products before purchasing them to ensure that you’re buying something that will suit your lifestyle.

No matter your skin type, you need to wash it on a daily basis. Do this especially before applying makeup. Thoroughly wash your face and pat it dry. Then, apply toner to remove any excess oil. Once your skin is clean and dry, you are ready to start prepping it for makeup application. A clean canvas helps makeup stick better, as opposed to a greasy one.  

This age old trick is still being used due to one reason: it works like a charm! Ice your face by wrapping 2 or 3 ice cubes in a face towel before rubbing it on your face. Yes, it seems like a drastic measure but it’s not as bad as it sounds. Not only does the ice cool down your body’s temperature, it also helps minimise the pores for easier makeup application.

It’s called a primer for a reason – it primes your face for makeup! Apply a thin, even layer before your foundation as it helps keep your makeup intact.

Once you’ve applied your makeup, it is an absolute must to set it. If you are using liquid based products on your skin, invest in a good brand of mineral powder and lightly dust it over your makeup. Not only does it fill in the gaps, it also works as a magical setting powder. Alternatively get a setting spray. This product is similar to what hairspray is to hair; it keeps everything in place and on lockdown. Just a few spritz and you are ready to take on the world (and heat!)
