Don’t know why your hair is so dry? Let us tell you why and how to revive it!
Dry hair makes your mane brittle and frizzy. Contrary to popular belief, dry hair isn’t a hair type, and it’s highly preventable.
Dryness is a condition caused by many factors and can be managed with enough tender loving care! If you’re struggling with dry hair, we’ve got the deets on how you can tackle it!
1 Weather Factor
Weather plays a key role in our skin and hair conditions. Over-exposure to the sun or intense cold weather can lead to brittle and dry hair. To manage this, use the right conditioner for your hair needs (coloured, damaged, frizzy, etc) on a daily basis. Also use a hair mask once to three times a week for intense hydration.
2 Hormonal Changes
This one is unavoidable and can be pretty frustrating too! Sometimes there’s a shift in hormonal balance due to phases like pregnancy, menopause, high-stress, and more), which leads to dry and brittle hair, and even hair loss. To alleviate some of the damage, stock up on multivitamins which can boost your immune system and general hair health. Also try eating clean and increasing your fibre intake so that your body gets to eliminate any excess estrogen.
3 Bad Combing Habits
Yes, chances are, you might be doing the hair combing thing wrong. Remember never to comb through wet hair, especially if it isn’t conditioned. It leads to breakage and damaged hair. Alternatively, allow it to air dry before coming through it with a detangler or wide-toothed comb. Give your hair a break from the heat of the hairdryer. If you’re in a hurry, use an ionic hairdryer – it dries your hair fast with minimal heat damage.
4 The Wrong Shampoo
There are so many types of shampoos that it can be a bit of a pain to pick one that works best for you. Read through the labels to ensure that your chosen one suits you. Cleansing shampoos dry the hair out as they focus on cleaning grease and dirt. Hence, they are not meant to be used daily.
Sometimes less is more. Try to give your hair time to rest and recuperate especially if you constantly style it. Avoid using heated tools or dyeing your hair too often as you’ll strip the hair of its natural oils. If you do use heated tools or dye your hair, make sure to use a heat-protectant spray and mask up (see point 1).
